How Much Does Attic Insulation Cost in Atlanta, GA?

Atlanta Elite Spray Foam insulates attics all over the metro, and most jobs come in between $3,000 and $8,000.

Attic size, foam type and thickness, workability, and old insulation removal set the number.

The attic is usually the best return in an Atlanta house. Through a long cooling season, a vented attic bakes above your rooms with only batts in between. Below: cost drivers, floor versus roof deck, and the work itself.

Attic Insulation Cost in Atlanta, GA

What Sets the Price

  • Square footage of the attic
  • Open-cell at $1.50-$3.50 per sq ft or closed-cell at $2.50-$5.50
  • Thickness, since you pay for inches as well as area
  • Hauling out and disposing of old insulation
  • Workability: headroom, decking, truss spacing
  • How much air sealing and detail work is needed

Access gets underestimated. A walkable attic goes fast; crawling between low trusses takes far longer for the same area. The ENERGY STAR guide to adding attic insulation shows how to tell if yours needs more, our first check.

The Big Choice: Roof Deck or Attic Floor

This defines the job, so know it before comparing quotes.

Sealing the Roof Deck

Foam goes under the roof deck, vents close, and the attic joins the conditioned envelope near indoor temperature.

It costs more and alters the roof assembly, so it needs to be done properly. In return, ducts move inside the thermal envelope, frequently the largest efficiency gain in a house with attic HVAC, and the attic quits working as a solar collector over the bedrooms. Our attic spray foam page covers both methods.

Insulating the Attic Floor

Insulation goes on the ceiling below; the attic stays vented and hot. It is the usual, cheaper route.

But many Atlanta homes keep ducts and the air handler up there, and cooled air crossing a 140-degree attic loses plenty on the way.

Taking Out the Old Insulation

Old blown fill and tired batts usually go first. In older intown homes that is a big load, and disposal is a real cost.

Removal also exposes knob-and-tube wiring, rodent damage, old leaks and bath fans venting into the attic instead of outside. Better found now than buried.

Air Sealing Comes First

Insulation slows heat but not air, and leaks usually do more harm than missing R-value.

Seal top plates, wire and pipe holes, chimney and duct chases, recessed lights and the hatch; that is much of a foam job's value. A quote naming just R-value and square footage describes half the work.

Ventilation and Moisture

A sealed attic needs a deliberate ventilation plan, not just closed vents. Combustion appliances need review and moisture needs a path. In Atlanta humidity, ask any contractor quoting a sealed attic how they handle it.

What Happens on Install Day

  • Masking and protecting areas the crew walks through
  • Removing old insulation where needed
  • Air sealing penetrations
  • Spraying foam to the specified depth
  • Trimming foam that must sit flush
  • Cleanup and disposal

You will usually be out of the house while foam goes on and cures, and we give a time specific to your job.
